NTSB investigators used data provided by various entities, including, but not limited to, the Federal Aviation Administration and/or the operator and did not travel in support of this investigation to prepare this aircraft accident report.

The solo student pilot reported that during the second landing of his flight, the airplane bounced twice and veered left. He reported that as the airplane was about to exit the left side of the runway, he applied full power to abort the landing. The student pilot reported that the airplane collided with a tree 60 feet above the ground on the left side of runway, spun around 270 degrees in the air and impacted the ground. The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings.

The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:

The student pilot's loss of directional control during an aborted landing, which resulted in a collision with a tree and impact with the ground.



FRIENDSWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- A single-engine plane made a crash landing this morning in Friendswood. 

The plane crashed while attempting to land this morning around 8am in the 2200 block of Airline in the Polly Ranch subdivision.

The Friendswood Police Department says the plane -- a fixed wing single engine aircraft -- clipped a tree with its wing and spun the aircraft around.

There were no injuries reported.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is on the scene and the Federal Aviation Administration has the runway shut down.

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas - A single-engine aircraft had a rough landing Thursday morning at a private airstrip Friendswood, police confirm.

The fixed wing aircraft went down in the 2200 block of Airline in the Polly Ranch subdivision.

The Friendswood Police Department received the call at 7:54 a.m. when the aircraft clipped a tree with its wing and spun the aircraft around.

No injuries were reported. 

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is on the scene and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has the runway shut down.

A small plane crashed Thursday morning just feet from a home near an airstrip in Friendswood.

The single-engine plane crash landed about 8 a.m. in the 2200 block of Airline in the Polly Ranch subdivision, said Trooper Stephen Woodard of the Department of Public Safety.

No injuries were reported.

Woodard said the plane came to rest about seven feet from a home in a backyard.

The pilot, a 45-year-old man, was the only person aboard the aircraft. It appeared, Woodward said, the pilot lost control in gusty conditions. The plane clipped a small tree and slammed to the ground about 30 feet away from the side of the runway.
