AIRCRAFT CRASHED UNDER UNKNOWN CIRCUMSTANCES. DES MOINES, IOWA.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa —TMZ is reporting that law enforcement has told them Adam Kenworthy and his 65-year-old father were the ones involved in the plane crash in West Des Moines.

TMZ reports Adam Kenworthy is the boyfriend of Real Housewives of New York star Carole Radziwill. He's appearing on the season that's currently airing on the Bravo network.

Radziwill told TMZ that "Adam was released from the hospital a few hours after the crash, and his mom says he suffered a few abrasions but will be fine."

West Des Moines police confirmed the pilot was David Kenworthy, 65, of Des Moines, and the passenger was Adam Kenworthy, 30, of New York.  The plane is owned by Oakwood Group LLC, which lists David Kenworthy as its main contact.

The biplane crashed into a hill Thursday after it tried to make an emergency landing in the 3000 block of Southeast Army Post Road around 7:30 p.m. The front end of the aircraft was destroyed.

The initial crash report released Friday morning from the FAA shows that the aircraft N5SED "crashed under unknown circumstances."

The report shows one person suffered serious injuries and the other minor.  Both men were able to walk away from the crash and were taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

First responders said the strip of flat land likely saved their lives. A 65-year-old man was flying the plane while his 30-year-old son was in the passenger seat.

The aircraft left the Des Moines Airport and was shortly thereafter declared an aircraft emergency. The passenger used his cellphone to alert the control tower they were making an emergency landing.

They made their descent attempting to land on a strip of open land but crashed into a small hillside.

Federal authorities, the FAA, and National Transportation Safety Board started their investigation Friday morning.

Authorities released the names of the two men who were injured when a small, recreational-use plane crashed Thursday night south of West Des Moines.

David Kenworthy, 64, of Des Moines, piloted the plane, according to a release from the West Des Moines Emergency Medical Services. His son Adam Kenworthy, 30, of New York was a passenger.

TMZ reported that Adam Kenworthy is the boyfriend of reality television personality Carole Radziwill, who stars in "The Real Housewives of New York City."

The elder Kenworthy suffered serious injuries and his son's injuries were moderate, said EMS spokesman Dave Edgar. Radziwill told TMZ that her boyfriend was released from the hospital a few hours after the crash.

The Waco YMF-F5C plane had an open cockpit and crashed at about 7:30 p.m. on a hill near the 3000 block of Southeast Army Post Road.

Officials believe a problem with the single-engine plane's power caused the need for an emergency landing about 10 minutes after it took off from Des Moines International Airport. The Kenworthys took off for a sightseeing trip around the area, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Authorities were notified of the crash first by the airport, and then by Adam Kenworthy, who called 911 using his cellphone.

The men were conscious and talking when emergency responders arrived on the scene, according to a news release.

Both were transported by ambulance to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

West Des Moines Police will monitor the area through Saturday, when the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will begin the investigation.
